Cassie and Myrtis’s Story
Cassie and Myrtis Johnson met in November of 2020, were engaged two weeks later and got married two months after that. There is no doubt that they will boldly go all in when they know it's the right thing to do. Cassie is very happy to share about starting their life together. “We truly saw God work in bringing us together to meet, to date and to marry. We kept Him first and honored Him through it all”
They were able to move into their dream home and felt like they were being led to follow a plan God had for them. Although they weren’t sure of the specifics, they knew following that plan could involve being called away from their families to fulfill their purpose. After they had been married about a year, their faith was still sustaining them, but they realized they were drifting off of the course that they felt they should be following.
“We became kind of lax and comfortable. This past February, for our first anniversary, we went to Cancun and realized that as a couple we weren’t really as all in with God as we were when we first met. We let alcohol and worldly views sort of slip in to mask the pain of not having our families’ full support.”
They realized they needed to make a change. As they had previously demonstrated, when they make up their minds to do something they don’t hesitate or waste any time.
"We came to a place of full surrender and we laid aside all the things hindering us from seeing God’s plan for us. We prayed for a church home, we prayed to have a community of support, we prayed to grow closer to Him as a married couple and to uncover our purpose in that.”
Once again things moved quickly for Cassie and Myrtis. In a discussion about picking up their dog after their Cancun vacation, their dog sitter mentioned she was headed to a church nearby. Cassie and Myrtis are avid runners and realized they had run by that church several times. They felt like this was more than a coincidence and that God was answering their prayers and leading them to a place they needed to be. They attended Hope Chapel - Legends the very next Sunday.
“We walked in and were made to feel right at home. We enjoyed the worship and the message. There was a devotional book available and we began going through it together. We came to the worship and communion service that Wednesday and we felt something break off of us and we knew Hope Chapel was our church home.”
Beyond the fulfillment and peace they have found with their reinvigorated faith and new church home, Cassie and Myrtis also followed a calling to share their home and God’s love by entering into the process to adopt a teenager in foster care. They had gone through the initial phases last year, but had fallen behind on pursuing it.
“Since we fully surrendered our kingdom for His, now everything has opened up. We’ve even seen unheard of things happen with our adoption process and we believe the son we are adopting is the one God preordained for us”
Hope Chapel has played a big role in helping them find peace and their purpose. “The devotional, the staff, and people that we met were exactly what we needed. Cassie and Myrtis are especially grateful for how accessible the staff is and how easy it is to feel connected. “This perfect church home for us was right here in our neighborhood”.
Cassie and Myrtis are glowing examples of the transformation that comes from total submission to God’s will and being a part of a welcoming and supportive church family. “Ever since we got in alignment with what God needed us to do, He has made our plans clear.”
