Alpha is a 9-week series of conversations centered around spirituality, life, faith and purpose. It's designed for those who may be curious or even skeptical about spirituality or who may be asking questions like: Is there such a thing as God? Does spirituality matter? What is prayer and does it work?
Maybe the past year has handed you a season filled with loneliness and anxiety. Or perhaps it's just given you time and space to consider big questions about your own life. Many of us find ourselves asking questions such as: Why am I so lonely? Why can't I escape this feeling of depression or anxiety? What's my purpose? Alpha is not a self-help course or lecture. There won't be preaching. Alpha is a time for open discussion - to say anything (yes, anything!) and to explore these big ideas together. It's for anyone from any background. So come with your questions and opinions ready to meet new friends and laugh along the way!
WHAT DOES ALPHA LOOK LIKE?
Alpha is run in local communities all around the world, and everyone is welcome. You might discover Alpha being hosted in cafés, churches, bars, prisons, parks, universities, schools, homes, and even virtually! No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk, and good conversation.
At Hope Chapel, if you attend an in-person Alpha, you can bet there will be a delicious dinner where you’ll get a chance to unwind from a busy day and have casual conversation. After dinner, we’ll watch a 20 minute video outlining a few basic aspects of faith. Some topics include: What is prayer? How can I have faith? Who is Jesus? After the video, you’ll have a chance to discuss what you heard, share your opinion, ask questions, and hear from others. It’s a no-pressure time to simply talk, ask deeper questions, and connect.
HOW IS ALPHA DIFFERENT?
Alpha is not a church service or class. It’s a place to have conversation in an open and fun way. There is no pressure, and no follow up. You are free to come simply to check it out and bring anyone you’d like with you! Plus, it’s always free!
